Outbound telemarketing can be broadly split into two categories, business to business or business to consumer.  Both involve the telemarketing staff making outgoing calls.  It can form a large or a small part of a business’ marketing strategy, and can have many uses.  These uses include phone sales, lead generation, appointment setting, surveys, market research, direct mail follow up and many more.

An outbound call is usually scripted to a certain degree.  The level to which the script is fixed will depend on the nature of the call.  There are also legal requirements which stipulate certain information which must be included in some types of outbound calls.

When used intellegently, outbound telemarketing can be highly effective and bring a good return good return of investment, helping to build a customer base.  The quality and refinement of the script and the expertise of the staff can make a huge difference to the effectiveness of the campaign or service.
